Vikings meet the Spartans Split CD Bisson & The Vikings deliver very solid rock - hard but no metal - 4 rock songs and a ballad, completely in English, and all of a very high standard and catchy. Filopatria play more traditional-sounding Oi / RAC with a very clear British influence, the lyrics are also in English and are more political overall than their Swedish counterparts.       BLITZKRIEG. Das letzte bollwerk CD Excellent German RAC combining great melodic vocals with powerful guitar-based / metal-influenced rock. They manage to write catchy and varied songs, with a lot of power and still retaining a lot of melody and good rhythms, from harder rock to metal, but all executed to perfection. Definitely one of the top political bands in Germany at the moment.       BRETONISCHE WAFFENVERBAND. 20 ans déjà CD Totally old-school French Oi-based RAC. Not many albums so truly capture that 80's French sound, and the reason might well be that the band is made of a bunch of old skinheads who have been going since the 80's. Lyrically also going back in time with both political songs and more typically skinhead-themed tracks.       CONDEMNED 84. In from the darkness CD Always hard to review a classic, well-established band without ending up with clichés... It's unmistakably Condemned 84, don't expect anything funny or experimental. It's powerful Oi! as one would expect from them, but harder than before, with a couple of extra guitar riffs and solos. Some songs remind of 'Battlescarred' others more of their later releases. Is it an absolute hit album? No, but it's pretty damn good. There's songs about the usual topics, but also some on the PC promoters and bands who have become the new thought police and how the band won't give in to them. Hat off for that!       DEAD ON'S. Letters from... MCD (Tin box edition) Excellent female-fronted streetpunk from Finland. This girl can sing! The whole CD rocks from start to finish, an uptempo punked-up sound, with lots of energy, melody and singalongs. A great surprise to start the year with. Looking for trouble vol.4 Split CD Great addition to the 'Looking for trouble' Split CD series. 12 classic Oi / punk songs from the 80's re-recorded with football / hooligan lyrics, Leicester City vs. West Ham. The songs all pack a serious punch, thug rock TMF-style. Great lyrics too, I hope you don't support any of the teams they bash, because they sure do. Great release, songs that stick like fresh chewing gum...       DR. MARTINS. Legado sulista CD Good, solid Oi! by the southern Brazilian band. Hard Oi! / skinhead rock, which still somewhat has of the typical Brazilian sound, but the big difference is that the recording is a lot better than on most other releases, giving the band's sound a lot more power and aggression. No singalong melodic stuff. The lyrics mainly deal with the love of their city and homestate, and the skinhead way of life. Nice big glossy booklet.       FREIGÄNGER. Wir sind keine engel CD Properly pressed 8-song demo of the new German Oi! band, with former members of Rampage, Backstreet Firm and Brutal Deluxe. Their sound is pretty much in the same style as Backstreet Firm, uptempo German Oi!, fairly simple and honest, but overall it's a bit more mature, more structured and with some more melody. Good to see a band putting out a demo rather than going straight for a full-length album. Can't go wrong for a fiver. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies.       GIGI IN MUSICA. 25 jahre - fette beute CD 25 years already that Gigi of Stahlgewitter, Saccara and a few other projects unleashes his music on the scene, from RAC over metal to German schlager music. For this 25th anniversary he recorded a concept album, in such that they are all covers of popular German songs keeping the original lyrics, which all contain political political messages. Since they're all covers of mainstream artists, the messages are obviously meant to be left-leaning, but listening to them from the other side of the political spectrum, they could also be interpreted as being right-wing. It's a clever game he plays as the CD can never be banned for the lyrics, or the originals would have to be banned as well. Musically, the 19 tracks span his musical career as some version are hard rocking tracks that sound like Stahlgewitter, while others are closer to the originals.       LEGITIME VIOLENCE. Nouvelle France skinhead CD Powerful and brutal skinhead rock from the city of Québec in Canada. Musically a mix of what could best be described as classic French Oi! and songs that are faster and which sound a lot more aggressive and in-your-face. 100% skinhead, non-PC, great songs about their city, crew and friends, classic subjects that are still relevant. All songs are in French. Comes with a nice 12-page booklet with photos and lyrics. Excellent!        MARCHING ORDERS. Days gone by CD Finally a CD issue of this amazing debut full-length from this leading Australian streetpunk / Oi! band from Melbourne. With 2 self-released CD EPs as well as 2 split 7's and a 10' EP on Longshot Music under their belts already, these lads have proven their worth on the current global Oi! scene with their no-nonsense style of skinhead rock'n'roll that is heavily influenced by their local roots. Paying hommage to the Sharpie culture of Melbourne of the early 70's, this album offers not only 14 incredible songs influenced by the likes of AC/DC and Rose Tattoo, but as well a brief history lesson on the Australian sharpie scene. Includes the underground hit 'Survival'. Tech 9 was formed in the 80's out of the skinhead band Hidden Guns and has become a cult band and the longest going street punk band of The Netherlands.
