Bagadou
Stourm saw the light of day in June 1996 in the city of Kemper / Quimper
in the French province of Brittany. The line-up until May 2000 used to be
Pascal on vocals, Sylvie on drums, Yop on bass and Serge on guitars. The
second guitarist already left the band in October 1999 due to professional
obligations. Since May, Sylvie and Yop have left the band, but replacements
are already being checked out and one of them might be Boss, another veteran
of the French scene.
The band was named after the youth wing of the P.N.B., a 1930's separatist
movement striving for the independence of Brittany. Brittany is the last
traditionally Celtic region on Europe's mainland with it's own language,
though heavily outweighed by the omnipresent French. The only other pockets
of Celtic languages can be found on the British Isles with Welsh (Wales),
Cornish (Cornwall), Irish (Ireland, surprise surprise...), Manx (Isle
Of Man) and Gaelic (Scotland).
The recordings for the "Penn ar bedd" album already started
in 1998 in the Belgian city of Bruges, but not totally pleased withthe
result, the band hit the studio again in the spring of 1999. This time
they went to a top-notch studio in their own region and the band was also
better prepared for the job. This shows in the music, which sounds a lot
more mature than on the first recordings and with this the band managed
to deliver one of the strongest - if not the strongest - French RAC albums
in years.
The band's favourite French bands and also influences include Bunker
84, Legion 88, Komintern Sect, Camera Silens, Nouvelle Croisade and In
Memoriam.
So far the band has played in France and Belgium with a wide range of
different bands: Ultima Thule, Section 5, Headcase, Les Vilains, Torquemada
1488, Sang%, Killer Boots, Celtic Cross, Legion Of St. George, Londinium
SPQR, Durandal, Dernier Rempart, Propaganda, Radikahl, Sturmtruppen, Brutal
Attack, Celtic Warrior and In Memoriam.
